Horse Riding in Jakarta

Hi there, Great resource for expats! I’m moving out in a couple of weeks with my husband to be who is very much into sport. We’d like to find a sports club or something of the sort in Jakarta (if poss) where I can horse ride, we can play golf, swim, squash etc. I’ve had a look and the few clubs there are don’t seem to offer any horse riding or they are too far out of the city to go after work. Do you have any suggestions of good sports clubs we could look to become members of that are central? Thanks in advance, Sylvana

Hi, Horse riding you're going to have to head out of town. There are stables at sentul also golf courses out that way but it wouldn't really be a place to pop into after work. Even getting across town after work can take an hour at least so look for clubs near by work or where you live. Many of the big golf clubs offer a pool and maybe a gym but a lot of these are also outside of the city 1.5 to 2 hours drive in good traffic. Pondok indah golf club might be worth a try if you live in that area. Jakarta is not an easy place to get around so you may need to save golf and horse riding for weekends and join a club for swimming and gym or squash. Not a lot of the gyms have squash or swimming pools so may want to look at hotels or complexes that have these facilities. They usually let outside guests join but is usually pricey. Let us know what part of town you live in and maybe we can give recommendations.

There are not many all in one places. The closest place to ride is called Trijaya. They're located just south of the Ragunan zoo and from south Jakarta, takes about 30min to 1 hour to get to (depending on Traffic) They don't have any ride-out/trails, but they have a very nice coverd arena, and two out door rings. They also have a nice sitting area, as well a small snack bar.

I recommend Arthayasa Stables & Country Club www.arthayasa.com. Not far from Trijaya. Beautiful place, green, lots of horses, you dont feel you are in jakarta when you are there. Friendly and very experienced instructors and it is run by an Indonesian-Russian couple. they have cafe, accommodation, swimming pool. Nice!
