Hi Kelly and Lara,

First of all, I'm very impressed with your blog, it's really invaluable!
I was wondering if you can advise me on Jakarta's Salsa scenes. I started a few months ago and have been dancing frequently in London. Would really hate to not be able to do it here. Now I've noticed that you made some list about a year ago. May I please trouble you and ask for an updated list? Also, would you happen to know if partners are required and what the sex ratio's like for Latin dancing in these places? Thanks very much! Regards, Jess

Hi Jess

I am a keen salsa dancer and there are plenty of salsa nights to keep you happy.
Tuesday nights I think is at Benny Hana Japanese restaurant grand Indonesia. (strange place to have salsa but it works) from 730pm -11pm (you may need to check times)

Thursday nights as far as I know there are now 3 options. Most popular r ritz carlton hotel mega kunningan tempus lounge 930pm-1am Fx - the one and only bar. Earlier. 730pm-11pm

I think New to Thursday night 3rd floor above kemchicks Kemang not sure of times.

Friday nights amigos Kemang 9pm till late (more casual night but busy) Saturday nights Burgundy bar grand Hyatt. 930pm till late And think ritz carlton mega kun also now does Saturday nights. How it seems to work most places is if your partner doesn't salsa you need to find an instructor who you pay to dance with you for the night. My friends and I usually go as a group and hire our regular instructor for the night. Occasionally you get a few men looking for the odd dance but generally you need to hire a male dance partner. Cost of an instructor for the night usually Rp500-750 plus drinks (usually non alcoholic) I'm sure we'll meet in the salsa circuit.

 Kelly
